Erika M. Mayorquin, Esq - of counsel attorney
Education:
Thomas Jefferson School of Law, 2011 University of California, Los Angeles, Bachelor Degree in Science, Psychology, 2005

Bar Admissions:
California; All Federal District Courts in California; U.S. Supreme Court

Practice Areas:
Family Law; Criminal Defense; Mediation

Professional Background:
I have worked within the field of law for over ten years, focusing in family law and criminal defense. After graduating from UCLA in 2005, I began working as a legal secretary for a family law firm and continued to explore other fields throughout law school. During law school I interned as a certified law clerk at the San Diego County Public Defender’s Office for one year where I assisted in felony arraignments, argued bail reductions, and OR releases. I conducted Preliminary Hearing cross-examinations and assisted Deputy Public Defenders in preparing for felony trials. I tried a VC23109(c) bench trial which resulted in an acquittal. In 2012, I started my private practice focusing primarily on family law. I have settled complex cases and zealously represented clients with custody, support, property division, and judgment enforcement issues. I have defended clients against restraining orders and have been successful at having these dismissed, or alternatively enforced. I served as a mediator for the Thomas Jefferson School of Law Mediation Pilot Program. The program is comprised of a panel of mediators, which the Probate Court refers Guardianship and Conservatorship cases in need of mediation. In 2013 I was a part of a team of attorneys litigating two nationwide, large scale cases. One case was litigated in the United States District Court, Southern District of California and the other in the Superior Court of California, County of San Diego, Central Division. The case was complex and required several depositions and motions for discovery. The case resulted in a full settlement in 2014. My passion for the law has been unwavering throughout my career. As an attorney, I have a great responsibility to voice client’s concerns and protect their rights. Every case, big or small, complex or simple, is equally important to me. Family law is a field that allows me to serve as a counselor both in and outside of the courtroom. I acknowledge the fact that people’s lives are impacted by each court proceeding and I make sure to maintain communication after these proceedings culminate, as life goes on after the courtroom.
